We are working with collaborators in Margaret Evans' lab and Grant Domke's group at the US Forest Service to build a set of tools for accessing timeseries of tree growth and survival measurements from the Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis project. FIA data are freely available through the DataMart data portal, but are optimized for spatial rather than temporal analysis. We are creating backend tools to efficiently link records through time, and a suite of user-facing functions for rapidly querying timeseries of tree growth and sapling recruitment. These will be used for refined forest carbon accounting, integrating fine-scale tree-ring analysis of tree growth with national-scale monitoring, and much more!
