Announcing the Data Science Incubator Program!

Is there a new technique that you would like to apply to your research, or are you having trouble finding, managing, analyzing, or sharing data?

The CCT Data Science Team recently launched our Data Science Incubator Program supported by USDA Hatch funds and open to faculty, staff, and students in the university’s Division of Agriculture, Life and Veterinary Sciences, and Cooperative Extension (ALVSCE). The purpose of this program is to bring together the domain expertise of researchers with the data and computing skills of a Data Science Team staff member to work collaboratively on a data-intensive research project. The incubator program will expand capacity and remove barriers that are related to data intensive research. The scope of support we can provide ranges from advanced statistical modeling and visualization to data synthesis, simulation modeling, high performance computing, and software use and development.

We expect the incubator program to accelerate research projects through collaboration, with domain knowledge provided by the research project’s lead and the staff member providing guidance on methods, technologies, and best practices. The vision for this program is for all participants to work together collaboratively to solve problems and teach each other.

This program will be a unique resource for the University of Arizona, and drew inspiration heavily from the University of Washington’s incubator program.

The University of Arizona Data Science Incubator Program is open to all of ALVSCE, which includes the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the Arizona Experiment Station, and the Cooperative Extension System. Details about how to submit a proposal for the incubator program are on our Request for Proposals page. Project size should be targeted to take between 40-80 hours of CCT Data Science team member time spread out over three months. We are looking forward to the potential of these projects to expand further into longer term collaborations.
