STAC (Spatial Temporal Asset Catalog) is a specification for JSON files (and an API) which provide descriptions and links to spatial and temporal data. By using a browser, researches are able to load the JSON files and view the saved data via a hierarchy of thumbnails and descriptions. The STAC API also allows researchers to search for, find, and download the data files.
Our collaboration advanced the development of a Jupyter Notebook which facilitates the generation of STAC catalogs for private or public use. As the support for the STAC specification continues to spread, being able to easily generate usable catalogs will allow researchers and others to more easily find and use data.
