Creating a Lab Handbook with Quarto

When

11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Aug. 28, 2024

A lab handbook is a living document that outlines the group's philosophy, policies, expectations and "institutional knowledge". Having a handbook for your lab group can help get new members onboarded quicker, empower lab members navigating difficult situations, and improve equity in your lab (Tendler et al. 2023). In this workshop, you'll create your own searchable lab group handbook/wiki with Quarto. You'll learn the basics of GitHub, markdown, and Quarto, and be guided through customizing a template book to make it your own. This workshop is open to anyone, but will be especially useful for current PIs or graduate students or postdocs planning on running their own group in the future.
